Spillane’s was built in 1875 by Tom Spillane and has been going from strength to strength ever since. From roots as a local bar/general store, it is now a hive of activity during the busy tourist season in the Maharees. We started serving our own homemade burgers in 1975, graduating to a range of homemade salads in 1980, to now a comprehensive menu of quality home produced food at a reasonable price. The chargrilled sirloin and fillet steaks are legendary, as are the fresh from the Maharees pier crab claws. We changed our queuing system to full table service in 2008 and now take bookings.  We serve a lunch menu from 1-5pm and evening menu from 5pm during high season. Bookings are advisable during busy times to be guaranteed a table.
Our aim is to give good food, good service at reasonable prices, and we appreciate any feedback you may care to give. Our staff have evolved over the years from extended family only, to family and neighbours, to now, family, neighbours and a selection of international visitors anxious to spend a season in the unique corner that is the Maharees. Apart from the busy summer tourist season, Spillane’s is considered the home away from home for many people from all over the world, especially the windsurfing and surfing community. Many of our regulars are families that have been coming on their holidays to the Castlegregory area for literally generations! It is both a thrill and a reward for us to see people that were minded in carrycots in our kitchen as babies returning now with their children and children’s children! Whomever you are, we at Spillane’s extend an invitation to visit at any time, and be assured of a warm welcome.

We use local produce where possible in our dishes and encourage our staff and customers to play their part. Our takeaway containers are either fully compostable or recyclable. We use compostable straws.

We are members of the  Green Hospitality Program and are working hard towards making improvements in all aspects of our business and achieving certification. We have recently signed up to The GLAN pilot scheme on The Dingle Peninsula encouraging local businesses to play their part in becoming more environmentally friendly and sustainable.
