Start in Camp for this epic cycle. This route visits a tranquil lake, the village of a famous explorer, a ruined castle and one of Ireland’s most famous beaches. Legend has it that Annascaul Lake was formed when two mighty giants, one of them said to have been Cú Chulainn, fought a battle for the hand of the fair maiden Scaul. Inch Beach is 5km long and, with its Blue Flag status, is popular year round with swimmers, beach walkers and water-sports enthusiasts. It also served as the backdrop for two films, Ryan’s Daughter and The Playboy of the Western World. This cycle is not for the faint-hearted, includes some steep climbs towards the finish but oh so worth it. You will be exhilarated after this trip.
