Walks – There are a lot of maps and guidebooks at the cottage for walks and hikes.  Depending on how ambitious you’re feeling these can range from a stroll along the shore to tackling Mount Brandon (second highest mountain in Ireland).

The beach right by the cottage is on the edge of a tidal lagoon that ranges from almost empty (with a couple of streams passing through) to a full lake lapping at the grass!  At low tide you can walk across the “sorleen” (as the locals call it, not sure of spelling!) to the spit and go around to Fermoyle beach – however, you’ll still have to cross the streams which can be deep – also some of the areas of sand aren’t that stable!

There are two walks to the valleys and waterfalls the other side of the R560 (Connor Pass), either drive and park or walk from the cottage (although the beginning is not that interesting) – details found in the guides and maps in the bookcase.

To collect mussels, head left from the cottage and aim for the black rocks with a white “tideline” on them (approx. 20 mins walk).  Take a bucket and a couple of knives with you for prising the gems from the rocks – just keep your eye on the tide.
